Fedora is clawing at the competition

Oh sweet mother of Jesus, WTF just scratched its way onto our plate?! Believe it or not, this is the fried chicken bowl at Fedora, the new Village subterranean joint from Joseph Leonard’s Gabe Stulman. We’ve heard of nose-to-tail dining, but jeez! At Fedora, it’s friggin’ beak-to-claw.

And it’s exactly what it looks like: a quarter piece of fried chicken served with the claw still attached to the leg joint, hanging off the bowl and waving a cucumber at you. (It’s served on a bed of rice with garlic chips, arugula and cucumbers—pretty decent, actually.) I’m a huge fan of Stulman’s cooking at JL, but frankly this was way over the top, gimmicky and not the most appetizing scenario. I immediately pulled an Aron Ralston and sliced off the wacko member. “127 Hours” at Fedora—who knew?! —Alexis L. Loinaz
